Introduction
The Song Yuan Villa, originally named the "Military Affairs Department" office in Hualien Port, was built on April 1, 1942, during the late stage of World War II. The building is located in an area covered by pine trees, forming a forest with other buildings such as the Broadcasting Bureau, Coast Radio Station, and Water Treatment Plant. Due to its location directly facing the entrance of the Meilun River into the North Beach, the Song Yuan Villa has a natural advantage in terms of altitude, offering a view of the Meilun River entering the sea, Hualien Port, and the Pacific Ocean. During the war, it served as an important military command center for the Japanese army in Hualien, easily controlling the entry and exit of ships at the South Beach and the landing and takeoff of aircraft at the South Airport.
