Introduction

Dadaocheng was once a settlement of the Pingpu tribe, the aboriginal people of Taiwan. It was not until 1709, during the 48th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, that Han Chinese began to enter the area and establish an agricultural community. Due to the presence of a large open area used for sun-drying crops, the area became known as "Dadaocheng." Dadaocheng remained a peaceful community until the Japanese colonial period in 1920, when the colonial government abolished the administrative districts of Dadaocheng, Monga, and Dalongdong, which were previously under the direct control of Taipei Prefecture, and established Taipei City. Although the administrative district of Dadaocheng was abolished, it is still a place that Taipei residents remember fondly. The Dadaocheng Wharf is located at the No. 5 Sluice Gate along the banks of the Tamsui River (at the intersection of Huanhe North Road and Minsheng West Road). The history of Dadaocheng is closely related to the wharf. Foreign trading firms flocked here to open businesses, contributing to the prosperous development of Dadaocheng. Today, although the wharf no longer serves its original purpose, it has been transformed into a recreational spot for the public. In addition to fireworks displays during festivals and holidays, a bicycle lane has been established along the coast, allowing people to leisurely ride bikes and enjoy the nostalgic scenery of Dadaocheng.
